4. Raising a Chimp and a Child
Psychologist Winthrop Niles Kellog wanted to know the similarities and differences in terms of development of a chimpanzee and his son when raised together and treated alike in every detail.
The chimp was able to take on many human ways and its rate of development was even faster than Kellog’s child. Towards the end of the experiment, Kellog noted that the chimp progressed slower particularly when it comes to “intellectual adaptation to human demands.”
Kellog reportedly abandoned his experiment when his child began imitating chimp sounds rather than learning how to talk.
