5. The Mass of the Soul
A physician from Haverhill, Massachusetts, Dr. Duncan MacDougall was known for his experiment that aimed to determine the mass of the soul by the measuring the mass change of six patients at the time of their death. His first result yielded a loss of “three-fourths of an ounce” or 21 grams. MacDougall publicized it as the mass of the soul. Today, scientists consider his methodology as unscientific.
