Woman gets shortchanged over a ‘Brazilian Blowout’

Netizen Alyssa Thea Cortez gave a warning to others when she had Brazilian Blowout treatment done on her hair recently. Cortez had thought it was her lucky day when she spotted a salon along Buendia offering Brazilian Blowout at a hugely discounted price.

Brazilian Blowout is a professional hair smoothing treatment that improves the health of the hair and gives a smooth, frizz-free texture. Cortez said she had already tried the treatment in other salons, but was pleasantly surprised to find this particular salon offering the treatment at only P999 from the usual P3,500 for her hair length. Naturally, she decided to give it a try.

During the process, Cortez noticed some very different things from her usual experiences when getting her hair done. She first noticed the treatment smelling differently from the usual citrus smell the product usually had. She particularly got the chocolate-scented hair treatment, but the chemicals on her hair didn’t smell like that either. Another thing she noticed was that the stench of the chemicals were so harsh, it brought tears to her eyes. In all of the past times she had her hair treated, this was the first time she experienced such a thing.

When she asked the stylist what was happening, the stylist assured her everything was normal. Since the stylist and the rest of the staff were very accommodating, she took their word for it. At the end, though, Cortez described her hair as looking “oily, sticky, and flat,” a complete opposite of what Brazilian Blowouts promise.

Since there was nothing she could do about it, she asked the staff if they could show her the product the staff used on her hair. As if to prove her suspicions correct, it turned out the staff had used a locally-made product with the words “keratin treatment” written on the side.

Despite her good rapport with the staff, Cortez couldn’t help but post a warning to others planning to have their hair treated to very carefully check the products to be used on their hair. Cortez said the salon shouldn’t have been advertising their “Brazilian Blowout Promo” since they weren’t going to use a product designed for that in the first place.

While Cortez admitted that she may have had a mistake in not choosing the salon carefully enough, it still does not give the salon the right to use a different product all for the sake of pretending to offer a great deal. In this case, let’s just always remember the saying, “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.”
