Normiah T. Wahab was shocked after allegedly finding a worm-like creatures “swimming” inside a can of Century Bangus. Photos of the contents of the opened can were posted on her Facebook account on August 7.
According to Wahab, the canned food is not yet expired.
Wahab also revealed that the general manager of Century Pacific Foods asked her to take down the post as they are currently investigating the matter. The company has yet to give a statement regarding the issue.
Her post has gone viral amassing over 37,000 shares on Facebook.
In the past month, two consumers complained about finding mysterious solid matter in a Milo tetra pack and a Chuckie tetra pack.
Nestle claimed that the solid matter found in the Milo tetra pack was actually coagulated milk, while the findings of the University of the Philippines Natural Sciences Research Institute Microbiological Research and Services Laboratory revealed that it was a mass of fungal hyphae.
On the other hand, Nestle is currently conducting an investigation regarding the solid materials in the Chuckie drink.
Century Pacific Issues Official Statement
The management of Century Pacific immediately issued an official statement regarding the issue through the Century Tuna Superbods‘s Facebook account.
“We are already in contact with the person involved to address the issue and are determinining the circumstances of the purchase and handling of the product as the type of contaminant will only manifest if the can is somehow punctured. Though very rare, this sometimes happens in transit or in storage at the store or even at home,” it said in its statement.
At the time of writing, Wahab had already deleted her post on Facebook.
