A Pinay wife’s Facebook rant against mistress-themed Filipino films and shows—particularly Star Cinema’s Etiquette for Mistresses—has gone viral on social media.
Amassing over 40,000 likes and more than 20,000 shares, Anna Katrina Esteves Pascual’s Facebook post has definitely earned a thumbs-up from netizens, specifically wives. In her post made on September 4, Pascual questioned why ABS-CBN as well as Star Cinema produce mistress-themed films and shows like No Other Woman, The Legal Wife, Two Wives, The Mistress, and The Love Affair that may possibly influence the younger generation’s morality.
“Didn’t you know that you have a moral obligation to your viewers to promote what is good? Yes it’s true that they, the Mistresses exist, Yes it’s true that its a big of an issue specially to Filipino families, for sure it has always been an issue, but do we really have to see this on screen again and again?” Pascual wrote in her post.
Pascual suggested film producers to come up with movies focusing on love, family, God, or Philippine history. According to Pascual, having great actors or actresses star in these types of films can help in moulding the youth of today.
“Imagine if they star in a moral and inspiring movie, not only will that movie be a block buster but you’re also helping in molding today’s children to be better Filipino citizens or even save families from tearing apart,” Pascual added.
Several netizens echoed Pascual’s opinion.
A Chito Roño film, Etiquette for Mistresses is based on the ’90s best-selling book of Jullie Yap-Daza. Set to hit the cinemas this September, the movie stars Kris Aquino, Claudine Barretto, Kim Chiu, Iza Calzado, and Cheena Crab.
