Insect found floating in Del Monte juice drink

Netizen Carissa Gonzales-Ynion posted yet another incident of foreign substances found in drinks in tetra paks. Ynion opened a 1-liter tetra pak of Del Monte Pineapple Blueberry drink and was pouring it into a glass when she saw foreign parasites spill out of the container.

Upon checking the label, she saw that the expiration date was still quite a long way off. Nonetheless, she decided to upload a photo to inform Del Monte of the manufacturing batch the juice belonged to.

According to a comment made by one of Ynion’s contacts on Facebook, the insects look like silverfish. Silverfish can grow to a maximum of ¼-½ inch long. They thrive in humid environments. They can cause much damage because they like to eat many common household items.

Silverfish are not dangerous to humans, but they can do a lot of damage to property due to their feeding habits. Nonetheless, it would be horrible to consume these insects—or any insect for that matter—when all you want is to have a glass of juice.

Here is the official statement of Del Monte Philippines:

Thank you for your concern on this matter. We are already in contact with the complainant who has shared the details of the product in question. Said silverfish seen in the liquid were alive, which means that they were not present in the product during production as our pasteurization process would have killed them due to the high temperature. A review is already ongoing to determine how the silverfish ended up in the juice after production.

Del Monte strives to meet high standards of quality, with our production facilities and processes all meeting FDA inspection and ISO certification. We give attention to all customer complaints and ensure each case is properly investigated so that our production facilities continue to meet our consumers expectations on quality.

If you are interested in the results of the investigation, please provide your contact information so that we can provide you with the findings.

Thank you.
