New modus operandi allegedly involves two women picking fights with victims

Netizen Maria Violeta posted what seems to be a new modus operandi involving two women who pick fights with their victims to possibly distract them and steal their belongings.

Maria Violeta was at Gateway Mall Cubao when she collided with an older woman in black. Maria Violeta didn’t think anything of it at first since she assumed the woman was probably in a hurry. However, when she was exiting Gateway on her way to Farmers Market, the same woman in black tried to trip her.

Maria Violeta turned to the woman and said, “May problema ba? [Is there a problem?]” The woman merely replied “no” so Maria Violeta went on her way. But she hadn’t gotten far when she was hit from behind. Maria Violeta lost her temper and cursed her attacker, a girl in white who was pointing a finger in her face.

The girl said, “Bakit mo minumura nanay ko? [Why are you swearing at my mother?]” and hit Maria Violeta with her bag. That’s where the brawl started.

The older woman in black kept antagonizing Maria Violeta. Every time Maria Violeta would answer back, the girl in white would fight back. The encounter lasted for two minutes full of name-calling and shouting.

Soon after, the woman in black stopped her daughter from fighting back. Maria Violeta took the chance to get away out of fear that something more serious might happen to her.

Maria Violeta entered Farmers Market and went inside one of the boutiques since she thought she was being followed by the two. She was able to get a photo of the mother and daughter knowing she was safe with a guard in the boutique.

Maria Violeta said while the two were properly dressed, she noted that the area where they attacked her had no CCTV cameras and guards around. She also noted they had the same bag style, which prompted her to think this was indeed a modus operandi where the women pick fights with their victim. They would probably wait for the victim’s belongings be thrown to the side so accomplice would snatch the items and go.

Maria Violeta was thankful none of her possessions were stolen since she fought back. She shared her story on Facebook to warn fellow netizens.
