When the Taylor family went out for a drive one day, little did they know that they were about to get into a horrendous accident. Inside the car were the mother, the daughter, and a 16-month old boy named Jackson. The Taylors’ car was travelling at 110 kph when it crashed head-on with another vehicle.
The tremendous force of the impact resulted in internal decapitation for baby Jackson. The accident did not kill him, but it caused his spine to become detached from his head. The boy was quickly rushed to a hospital in Brisbane, Australia where he underwent six hours of surgery.
During the procedure, spinal surgeon Geoff Askin used wire and pieces of Jackson’s ribs to sew the severed vertebrae back together. Although the Australian doctors didn’t really stitch back a completely severed head, the procedure nevertheless is still being celebrated as an astounding surgical feat and medical breakthrough.
The boy must now spend eight weeks in a head and neck brace—to keep the area immobile—while the injury heals.
That Jackson survived the accident is already a wonder in itself. But the fact that he can still walk and will live what appears to be a normal life without disability or paralysis when his injury completely heals is nothing short of miraculous.
