A video uploaded by Adrien Whistle recently gained five million views because of something heartstopping that was caught on camera.
The clip shows a group of French tourists traversing a hanging bridge going towards the Great Walk Lake Waikaremoana in New Zealand, last September 3. One of them was holding the camera to document the trek.
However, while they were walking on the narrow bridge which was reportedly designed to carry a maximum of ten people, it suddenly collapsed, sending all four of them eight meters down into the river.
Luckily, no one was seriously injured.
According to the New Zealand Herald, Mike Slater, the Operations Manager for the Department of Conservation said the incident happened after a cable on the bridge was “released.””As a result, that upset the stability of the bridge and that’s where people that were on the bridge have slipped off and fallen,” he added.
Although a full investigation was underway, Slater stated that the collapse was an extremely rare occurrence. “We just need to understand in this particular case exactly what did happen.”
As of this posting, the bridge is still closed.
