Ham, bacon, tocino, tapa, and longganisa are breakfast staples that most Filipinos love. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) recently revealed the risks of eating processed meats.
“There is strong evidence that eating a lot of these foods [red and processed meat] increases your risk of bowel cancer.”
Bowel cancer includes colorectal cancer, the disease which eventually took the life of former president Cory Aquino. Its symptoms are bloody feces, unexplained change of bowel movement, and unexplained weight loss. Although there are many factors that cause cancer, eating processed meats is being pointed out as the culprit for this specific kind of cancer.
