MANILA, Philippines. A taxi driver was arrested after he refused to bring a passenger to his destination. The passenger happened to be an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
According to TV Patrol, Elcid Salcedo, an agent from NBI, got into a taxi along Commonwealth, Quezon City and requested the driver to bring him to his office in Taft, Manila. When the driver named Efren Padua learned about his destination, he immediately told Salcedo to get out of his taxi. When Salcedo refused, Padua drove the car fast and threatened to bring Salcedo to Pasig where the garage for his cab was located. Salcedo then showed his ID and introduced himself as an NBI agent. However, Padua was indifferent and told Salcedo that it didn’t matter if he was an NBI agent.
Since Padua persisted in making him get out of the cab, Salcedo contacted his colleagues and asked them to find any records on Efren Padua.
When Padua realized the seriousness of the situation, he finally agreed to bring Salcedo to his office in Taft, Manila. Salcedo then brought Padua to his office and had him detained.
“Just imagine kung ordinaryong tao at babae pa yung nakasakay, kung anong kapasidad niya,” Salcedo stated.
(Just imagine if it was just an ordinary passenger and a woman. Imagine what he is capable of doing.)
According to NBI records, there were three people named Efren Padua who had records of unjust vexation and homicide. Salcedo said he decided to detain Padua as he might be one of the suspects on record. Moreover, Salcedo said that he will report Padua to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for snubbing and abusing a passenger.
