A Canadian company has come up with a solution to China’s severe smog problem.
The start-up company Vitality Air is now selling bottled fresh mountain air from the Rocky Mountains to Chinese customers. The product went on sale last month and sold out within two weeks in the Chinese market.
According to co-founder Moses Lam, he came up with the one-of-a-kind business idea after he listed a ziplocked bag of air on eBay. The product sold for 99 cents.
“We wanted to do something fun and disruptive so we decided to see if we could sell air,” Lam told CNN.
The company sells bottled fresh air and oxygen to customers in North America, the Middle East, and India. But China, having critical problems in pollution, remains its biggest market. Most of Vitality’s customers live in big cities in the northeastern and southern parts of the China.
Vitality Air’s China representative says most of their clients are wealthy Chinese women who purchase them for their families or give them away as gifts. Notably, senior homes as well as high-end night clubs have also purchased their product.
Price range from $14 to $20 per bottle.
