Couple reunited with daughter 17 years after she went missing

China. Last December 27, 2015, an elderly couple’s prayers were answered when they finally get to be with their long lost daughter again.

It was reported that 19-year-old Tang Shuzhuo went missing when she was only two after two canteen staff brought her outside of the school gates to play.  At that time, her parents ran a school canteen in Nanyang, Henan Province. When the employees went back to work, she was left alone on the street and never found her way back to her parents.

According to The Daily Mail, a man from the same city found the girl but when nobody came to get her, he took the tot home, adopted her and gave her a new name, Chen Guoli.

Southern Metropolis Daily reports that Shuzhuo only learned that she was adopted when her cousin from the Chen family told her the truth.

To find out who her real parents were, she and her cousin posted a message on Baobeihuijia or “Baby Come Home” website in April 2015. The site offered children a chance to reconnect with their parents.

The post read< “In October, 1998, Chen Guoli was alone on the street. Her adopted father accompanied her to wait for a long time and nobody came to pick her up, so [he] took her back [to his home] in Nanyang.”

Two months later, volunteers from Baobeihuijia took Shuzhuo for a DNA test at the local police station. They found a match to a couple in Nanyang who lost their child 17 years ago.

The organization immediately arranged for a reunion between the teen and her birth parents. Excited about the meetup, Lu Qirui and husband, Tang Yunfu, traveled 840 miles from Henan Province to Dongguan, where Shuzhuo currently resides.

Accompanied by their six-year-old son, they also brought with them a golden necklace as a gift for their daughter. Qirui said, “[I] haven’t seen her for 17 years. This can count as a compensation for not taking care of her.”

The couple said they closed their canteen years ago to find their missing daughter. After they lost hope, they decided to have two more children. “The missing of the child casts a long shadow over my life,” Qirui said. Today, they make a living by selling vegetables.

When the two saw Shuzhuo, Qirui quickly recognized her. With tears in her eyes, she exclaimed, “She looks exactly like her aunt.”

The mother excitedly touched her daughter’s ears before telling her husband that her ears are just like his, pointing to the obvious bulge at the back.

Overwhelmed by the situation, Shuzhuo refused to call the couple mom and dad at that time. “This is all too sudden. I can’t accept it for now,” she said to which her mother responded with full understanding. “Let’s take it slow. We can always save this for later.”
