Woman too preoccupied with phone falls and drowns in river

A 28-year-old migrant worker and mother of two was walking down a road in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China on the evening of December 29 when she suddenly slipped and fell into a river. Surveillance footage of the incident showed that, instead of focusing on the road, the woman was busy fiddling with her mobile phone at the time of the accident.

Apparently, the woman never noticed that she had gotten dangerously close to the water’s edge. The footage further showed her struggling for about a minute before altogether disappearing beneath the water.

Her husband, who went looking for her the next morning, found her shoe floating in the river and a search was then conducted. Police at the scene stated that while the water was only chest-deep, the thick sludge covering the river apparently can cause people to slip and fall in.

Below is the footage of the accident, as aired on China’s CCTV News. Warning: graphic images.
