But Manny was unfazed by the question. He replied that with so many problems happening in society and the government today, the only solution is to have godly leaders in the country.
He pointed out that godly leaders have the fear of the Lord and would not steal money from the government. He said that even if lawmakers pass millions of bills against corruption, corrupt officials would still steal if others are not looking. He said god-fearing officials, even if there are no laws against corruption and there is no one looking, would not steal because they know that God will see their actions.
Then, both Vic and Karen asked what he would do now that the LGBT community, especially top personalities like Vice Ganda and Boy Abunda, are angry at him and would certainly not vote for him. To this, Manny told them that they should listen again to his original interview because he never said he condemned LGBTs but only meant their actions in the bedroom.
When told that there is a possibility that the issue would have a huge negative effect on him come election day, Manny said that he does not want to compromise his beliefs and faith over votes because he want salvation in his life, not praise or approval from the people.
“I will not compromise and approve to make something wrong into something right just for people to vote me,” he said with conviction. He also said that he would have done that if he had a hidden agenda to steal from the government but all he wants is to change the system and bring back good governance to show others that good leaders should decide based on what is correct.
Throughout the interview, the Sarangani representative kept repeating that he has nothing against LGBTs or any person’s gender choice but that he was only condemning their sex acts.
He gives Bible verses relevant to this: Leviticus 20:13, 18:22 and I Corinthians 6:9.
Other Issues
Manny admitted that he opposes divorce because of what is in the Bible. However, he agreed with the death penalty, saying that this punishment is actually biblical. He told people to read Romans 13: 1–7 related to this.
When asked why he is under presidentiable candidate Jejomar Binay’s slate who is facing plunder and graft charges, Manny said that he respects the constitution that everyone should be innocent until proven guilty; thus, he is not condemning the VP. But in case Binay is proven guilty, then he should face punishment for his actions Manny believes.
Manny was also told that many believe he was being judgmental. Karen asked whether it was his role to judge; to this, Manny said that he has no right to judge others because he is also a sinner like everyone else. However, because he believes in God and will obey God, he only wants to do things based on God’s words—and that is the reason why he condemns the sex acts of the LGBT community, not the individual’s gender choice.
