Torque recently released their lineup of budget-friendly tablets, namely the Ego Tab Series. Among the four tablets available, we had the chance to review the Ego Tab Q.
We used the Ego Tab Q as our daily driver for about a week and we are here to share some of the features that the tablet represents:
- AVERAGE DISPLAY AND DESIGN
The tablet has a 7-inch WSVGA screen. Although it is bright, you may find trouble looking at it from certain angles. The tablet looks just any other tablet, but since it’s running on Android Lollipop, there are no buttons at the bottom—they are located on screen. The speaker is located at the back so you may find a hard time listening to the audio when the tablet is placed flat on a table.
- PERFORMANCE: SOMETIMES BAD, SOMETIMES GOOD
The Ego Tab Q runs on Android Lollipop 5.1, 1GHz quadcore processor, a RAM of 512 MB, and an onboard storage of 8 GB (which is expandable via micro SD card). We experienced a bit of lag in its UI throughout our use. Although it’s running on Lollipop, the 512 MB RAM doesn’t do much. To run smoothly, it should have at least a 1 GB of RAM. Sometimes the tablet hangs, but good thing there is a reset button on top of the device that fixes the trouble.
- ORDINARY CAMERA
With its 3 MP camera both front and back, you can get acceptable photos that you can upload on your social media accounts. Picture quality is a bit on the low side but considering the tablet’s price, we think that it’s a bargain.
Here are some sample shots using the Ego Tab Q’s back camera at the highest resolution and other settings set to default. Both the front and back cameras have no built-in flash and are set to fixed focus. We noticed that the device has no Bluetooth option, so the other way to send the photos is via email. The photos have not been edited for this post.
- USB ON-THE GO
We are very happy that this tablet features an OTG capability—meaning, that it can read external storage devices such as a USB flash drive. The package has a free USB OTG cable. We tested the cable and it had no trouble detecting our flash drive.
- DECENT BATTERY
The Ego Tab Q has a non-removable 2,500 mAh battery. We tested the battery by watching movies (approximately 1.5 hours per movie) on the device. With a brightness set to medium and the volume pumped up to max, the tablet managed to play two movies leaving us with 20%. We are impressed by the results since some tablets can’t finish a 2-hour movie without the need for a recharge.
Despite some of its drawbacks, the Ego Tab Q is a great budget tablet that you will enjoy as a media device for only ₱1,899. If you’re buying a tablet to watch videos or browse the internet on a bigger screen, then this gadget is a must-have for you.
