The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has voiced out their opposition to the candidacy of presidential aspirant Rodrigo Duterte.
CBCP, through its head Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, issued a warning to Filipino voters about Duterte. He also slammed Duterte’s platform of violence against criminality saying it is against christian moral values.
In a statement Villegas said whatever the motive is, killing even if they are criminals is still a sin and against the teachings of the Catholic church.
“Kahit ano pa ang motibo, ang pagpatay ay isang krimen at isang kasalanan, kriminal o awtoridad man, ang gumawa nito,” said Villegas.
(Whatever the motive is, killing is a crime and a sin, whether it is done by criminals or the authorities)
Villegas also noted Duterte’s admission of being a womanizer is also against God’s commandments.
Prior to this, CBCP President Msngr. Soc Villegas also urged all catholics to pray the holy rosary until the May 2016 election.

Villegas stressed the importance of collective prayer in influencing major events in the country. In his pastoral message issued April 15, Villegas said we should all pray the rosary until the May 9, 2016 elections, anytime, everywhere.
“Pray all the mysteries of joy, light, sorrow and glory every day until May 9. Pray as a family. Pray while travelling. Pray in the offices or factories. Pray everywhere for our national elections.”
