After reportedly blocking food donations from the camp of presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte, Kidapawan City local police have allegedly blocked food donations from celebrities Robin Padilla and Anne Curtis.
A report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer revealed that police prevented about 300 farmers from getting their share of 400 sacks of rice donations from civic organizations as well as Padilla and Curtis.
According to Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chair Jose Luis Martin “Chito” Gascon, efforts to block humanitarian support would violate the right of individuals to have access to food, clothes, medicine and temporary shelter.
“All citizens should be free to receive help and support from other individuals or private and public institutions especially in the context of a crisis, albeit temporary,” Gascon told Inquirer through a text message.
It was earlier reported that North Cotabato governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliño Mendoza would be blocking food donations from politicians. In her interview with the press, Mendoza said that she will not allow anyone to use North Cotabato as a staging ground for their propaganda.
