During his second term as mayor, Duterte has “made a policy of doling out groceries to cops as a way of curbing their temptation to elicit bribes.” He’s also had a reputation of taking justice into his own hands, beating up cops who were drunk on duty and whipping pickpockets at city hall.

With the current controversy surrounding West Philippine Sea involving China and the Philippines, Duterte can help ease the tension. Duterte showed signs of taking a conciliatory stance in dealing with China.
He even mentioned the possibility of joint exploration of the disputed islands.
