Is China stocking supermarkets in Zambia with cans of human flesh?
A malicious post circulating on Zambian social media has alleged Chinese food companies of producing corned beef using dead humans and shipping them to the country. Based on reports, an unnamed Zambian woman residing in China issued the warnings to Africans.
The bizarre news was even reported in one tabloid newspaper in Zambia.
Calling the reports “irresponsible,” Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming denied the allegations and claimed that it was meant to destroy the long-standing partnership between the two countries.
“This is a malicious slandering and vilification which is absolutely unacceptable to us. We hereby express our utmost anger and the strongest condemnation over such an act,” Youming said in a statement.
The shocking images, which supposedly show human flesh being prepared for food process, were proven to be fake images stolen from a marketing stunt for the video game Resident Evil 6 in 2012. Some of the images were also taken from a butcher shop at London’s Smithfield Market selling fake “human meat”.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s Deputy Defence Minister Christopher Mulenga has issued an apology and said his government will conduct an investigation on the malicious reports.
