MANILA, Philippines. During a Liberal Party campaign rally for the Roxas-Robredo tandem at Plazoelta Gay in Iloilo City on Tuesday, May 3, President Benigno Aquino III said that he will fight Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte if he becomes a dictator.
According to Aquino, the presidential frontrunner was already acting like a dictator when threatened to abolish congress if his opponents try to have him impeached over hidden wealth allegations against him
In his speech, Aquino said, “Hindi naman ako abugado, siya abugado.
(I’m not a lawyer. He is a lawyer. But I studied our Constitution and I’m challenging everyone here to find where in the Constitution does it state that the President has the power to abolish Congress?”)
Aquino also criticized Duterte for his impolite behavior which may compromise the country’s international relations. The president also mentioned Duterte’s plan to create a revolutionary government, which he thinks would be similar to martial law.
Hindi magkakaroon ng kabuluhan,” Aquino said in his speech.
( I can’t accept that my father’s and that of thousands of victims’ deaths will be in vain. I will do everything I can. Should my life be at stake, then my life is not important if I couldn’t continue the fight my father started. His death would lose its meaning. )
