MANILA, Philippines. Albay Rep. Joey Salceda has alleged that the augmented reality game Pokemon Go players in private cars are the cause of the worsening traffic situation in Metro Manila, particularly on EDSA.
Salceda’s statement came after the Metro Manila Council (MMC), a group composed of government transport officials and city mayors, made a decision to ban provincial buses from EDSA, a major thoroughfare, to ease the traffic in the area. But for Salceda, players searching for virtual creatures and asking drivers to stop so they can catch a Pokemon pose more problems .
“Dahan-dahan, may Pikachu dito. Itabi mo sandali, may Lures dito. (Go slowly, there’s a Pikachu here. Pull over, there are Lures here.) If you are rich enough to maintain a private car, you must be rich enough to (afford for) yourself and your kids an Android, iPad or iPhone. Multiply that by the 2.5 million cars in Metro Manila,” Salceda said.
According to Salceda, there are over 2.5 million private vehicles in the metro compared to 3,300 provincial buses.
