Caraisan, Ilocos Sur – a One-year-old child gets hospitalized after swallowing thumb sized safety pin.
Antonette Valle, mother of the child, she did not notice that her baby is playing with the sewing kit, Monday afternoon.
She just realized there’s something wrong with her son when he started crying and complaining that his throat is burning. Whenever he swallows, he cries.
Noong pinilit kong buksan yung bibig nya, nakita ko na nasa lalamunan na niya (safety pin). Iyak ng iyak kahapon. Kapag lumunok siya, ayon umiiyak.
Medical Awareness
The baby was rushed to the hospital and the pin was removed from his throat.
The doctor said that fortunately, the safety pin caused minor wounds and there were no complications seen. Treatment is needed, especially, he needs to take antibiotics to prevent further infections.
Safety experts advise to keep in mind the welfare of your children and keep away objects that are sharp and poisonous.
