We all thought the creepiest thing a cockroach can do is fly and crawl on our skin. We thought wrong.
Selvi, 42 years old, from India was reported to have a cockroach stuck in her skull for 12 hours. According to her, she was asleep when she felt something crawling inside her nostril.
“My immediate reaction after feeling that crawling sensation in the right nostril was to brush it off in half sleep,” she told Daily Mail. “But before I could do anything, it went inside. I could not explain the feeling but I was sure it was some insect. There was a tingling and crawling sensation. Whenever it moved, it gave me a burning sensation in my eyes.”
What’s inside
Upon visiting a nearby clinic, she felt uneasiness in breathing, but she was told that there’s nothing wrong with her. She then rushed to a government-run hospital, Stanley Medical College. There, doctors were shocked when they found a creepy crawler in her nasal cavities between the optical area and very close to the brain.
“It was a full-grown cockroach,” Dr. M N Shankar, department head, said. “It was in the nasal cavity between the eyes, close to the brain. It was alive. And it didn’t seem to want to come out.”
It was the first time he had dealt with this case in his 3 decades in the profession.
It took them more or less an hour to extract the insect from the woman’s body because the position of the cockroach was deep. The department was glad that Selvi went straight to the hospital before everything gets worst. According to Shankar, if the cockroach died inside her skull, Selvi could get inflict an infection which could spread to her brain and throughout her body.
