A revolutionary invention of three teenagers has been causing the internet to explode! A condom that changes colors immediately once it detects sexually transmitted infections.
It can literally save humanity!
Color Coordination
According to the media, these condoms would change color for certain type of virus. It can turn red when exposed to HIV, or blue for gonorrhea. This would help everyone, especially to starting partners to know if their other half is infected or not.
Still an Idea
Despite the buzz these condoms are creating, it is still a concept, not an actual product yet. These teenagers from Isaac Newton Academy in London won the TeenTech Award with this idea. They earned about $1,500 for their project called “S.T.Eye”.
According to one of the geniuses, “You would have to have the antibodies already attached to the latex of the condom, so once you add the fluid onto the latex, it would then trigger the reaction and cause a color change similar to the HIV test.”
However, they addressed two major problems that plague their invention.
First, nobody has figured out how to attach the antibodies to the latex yet. We’re not saying this is impossible, but it is still under an extensive study.
Second, when these condoms became successful, the price of them would be highly expensive. Since the development and mass production would require an abrupt advance in science, it will be pricey.
The Con’s
Even though this is a genius idea, some don’t see it as great as in sounds. For Martha Kemper from Rewire, “…I don’t think the heat of the moment is the best time to find out whether you or your partner has an STI,” she said.
“It’s a very vulnerable time to give or receive that kind of news, especially unexpectedly. At a minimum it could be painfully embarrassing; in the worst-case scenario, I fear it could provoke a potentially violent reaction.” she also added.
Nevertheless, these kids deserve a round of applause and proper recognition.
