If there’s one thing everyone can agree on: it’s the obvious fact that kids are irresistible. They are adorable, honest and innocent which is why a lot of people are fond of having kids around the house. They have a little angel to play with, hug and kiss.
But on the other side, did you know that kissing can have a negative effect for a young child?
A mother named Savina French-Bell noticed a strange rash on her daughter’s face the day after they threw a party for her child’s second birthday.
“It started to look like someone had thrown acid over her face, it spread from her mouth to her cheeks, and above her eyes,” the mother told Inside Edition.
The doctors were clueless about the poor child’s condition and the rashes were left untreated which made her suffer for almost eight months.
The little girl’s clothes would always be filled with blood due to her condition, which also made it hard for her to eat as the rashes were also painful. Savina often refused to go out with her daughter as the people would stare at the child and make negative comments.
In the initial days, the doctors thought it was caused by eczema or a simple allergy, but no prescription had an effect to the little girl. It came to the point when the child was hospitalized as she cannot eat anymore, hence the doctors kept her nourished through an IV.
Savina was desperate to find any clue which might be helpful for her child’s case so she tried to recall the recent events which might be relevant. One of the occurrences she recalled was a relative who gave the little child a kiss. It turns out that the relative had herpes.
That single detail became the key for the doctors to determine that the child was infected by herpes simplex virus type 1, and they were able to give the right treatment for the child. Since she was given the proper medication, the child was finally healed and was able to do activities which require the use of mouth such as eating.
“For the past few months, Sienna’s face has looked amazing and the infection has not returned. There is always a chance of it coming back, but fingers crossed it won’t happen and her skin will stay as good as it is now. It’s great to be able to go outside and not get any horrible comments from anyone,” Savina added.
Savina’s child might probably become worse if she hadn’t recalled that vital event. She now wants to warn parents not to let anyone make oral contact with their toddlers as a simple kiss might be dangerous.
Call it being overly sensitive, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
