Snake Island
Despite its vast and beautiful appearance, Ilha da Queimada Grande (commonly known as Snake Island) in Brazil is now being dubbed as the deadliest island in the world.
It is actually 90 miles away from the coasts of Brazil, and it’s a home to over 4,000 deadly snakes.
Golden Lancehead
It is believed that it’s also the home of Golden Lancehead Viper (Bothrops Insularis).
This snake’s venom is 5x stronger than any other snakes’, it’s so deadly that it can melt human flesh. It is responsible for the 90% of snake-related deaths in Brazil.
Story Time
So, how were these snakes able to multiply in population that fast?
According to Epic Wildlife, the island was once attached to the mainland, until tides became higher and separated the two. Without any predator in the island, the snakes were able to reproduce that quickly without facing atrocities.
The island is now prohibited from tourists, because of its danger. Well, of course, with the exception of few scientists that are continuously experimenting the snakes in the island. Also, the Brazilian Navy, who is responsible for the Lighthouse.
According to Marcelo Duarte, a Biologist that was once permitted to enter the island’s premises, there’s at least one snake per SQ. meter, meaning you can encounter these venomous snakes every 3 feet.
