India–woodcutters saw a girl roaming with the company of monkeys in the deeper part of wildlife in the dangerous Katarniaghat forest. It was reported immediately to the police, and the girl was soon rescued.
According to the police who retrieved the unnamed girl, they found her in the deepest Motipur range of Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary.
The sub-inspector who got the attention of the girl, Suresh Yadav, was reportedly attacked by the monkeys who kept her company.
“The girl was naked and was very comfortable in the company of monkeys. When they tried to rescue the girl, they were chased away by the monkeys. When [Yadav] called the girl, the monkeys attacked him but he was able to rescue the girl. He sped away with her in his police car while the monkeys gave chase,” the police officer-in-chief, Dinesh Tripathi, said in a report.
Animal-esque
Even though the girl did not attack nor fight back against her captors, they noticed that she behaved like an animal.
According to Dr. D.K. Singh, Chief Medical Superintendent at a government-run hospital in Bahraich, the girl eats on the floor and she runs around in her arms and legs. When she was first introduced to their town, Uttar Pradesh, she was very shy and scared of the villagers.
The doctors estimated that she should be around 8 to 12 years old.
With the vast improvement she is showing, cops are now looking for her parents. They are digging through the reports of missing children in their archives.
Until she’s fully identified and reunited with her biological parents, the girl will stay at a home for juveniles. According to Singh, the girl is really improving because of the help she’s been getting,
“She is still not able to speak, but understands whatever you tell her and even smiles.”
