What are the chances that you will be reporting your husband’s death on air?
Well, Supreet Kaur, a news anchor in India‘s IBC24 just did the unexpected. It was a breaking news at the time Kaur reported it and she delivered details about the accident still composed.
Clueless
An SUV collided with a truck in Pithora. It was an accident where three people had died and two were heavily injured. While the clueless anchor is listening to the reporter who gives further details to the tragedy via phone patch, Kaur suddenly arrived at a conclusion.
She knew that her husband, Harshad Kawade, was in the similar area using the same exact SUV. That’s when she realized that her husband could be one of the casualties.
It is admirable that all throughout the report, she never changed her manner of delivering the news. Kaur, who has been with the news channel for its entire nine-year history, was able to maintain her composure, even as the images of the vehicle and blurred photos of the victims were flashed on the screen.
Right after Kaur delivered the breaking news, she broke down as the station confirmed it was, in fact, her husband. She instantly went to the newsroom, as she let the news that ended their 18-month marriage sinks in.
“She was doing her job, and she kept on doing it with composure and without showing her emotions on air,” the editor-in-chief of IBC24, Ravi Kant Mittal, said.
The main office and studio of the news program are in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. IBC24 is a 24-hour private Hindi news channel that caters the central Indian states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
In a tweet, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Raman Singh said, “Salute Supreet’s strength in dealing with her husband’s demise with extraordinary bravery & professionalism. May departed soul rest in peace.”
