- A woman named Ally Daff shared her horrendous experience with an UBER driver on her way to work.
- The driver was implying sexual innuendos and refused to let her out of the vehicle.
Issues regarding drivers hitting on passengers have been increasing day-by-day. Some of the cases involve sexual assault most commonly to female commuters, while the others happened verbally. Either way, what the offenders did gave the passengers a trauma that they might carry until they grow old.
And again, the number of such case increased recently after a Facebook user named Ally Daff shared her atrocious experience with an Uber driver she rode with on her way to work.
Read her story below:
“Decided to use this Facebook account (after ma-HACK) to warn all of my friends here in MNL who loves #UBERPHILIPPINES.
Ilang beses na ako nagbook at sumakay sa #UBER lalo na pag kasama ko si Liam. Dahil yun lang yung safe at mababa yung pamasahe, unlike sa mga regular taxi.
Last night, MAY 17,2017. Late na ako nagising. 1am ang shift ko at nagising na ako ng 10:45pm at wala nang LRT. Nagmadali akong magprepare at inisip ko magUBERPOOL nalang.
11:22pm nung nagbook ako at nagrequest ng “SHARED CAR” (UBERpool), at dahil 131.00 PESOS lang from STA. MESA papuntang MOA, at UBER pa, nakampante ako.”
Ally shared that she was confident, at first, with the taxi as she had proven their reliability and good service a few times before. However, this specific trip was different from the usual ones.
“Pagkadating ng kotse bigla akong kinabahan. Pero mas natatakot akong malate. Nagstart na yung trip. Nagbibiro biro pa si kuya na pauwi na siya at biglang nagkaroon pa siya ng pasahero tapos malayo pa daw yung destination sa uuwian niya. Tumawa nalang ako.
Tapos bigla niyang sinabi, “Magseatbelt ka” (oo nasa harap ako). Nung ilalock ko na yung seatbelt o kung anu man tawag dun, hinawakan niya kamay ko na para bang hindi ko kaya gawin yun nang ako lang. Nagmadali ako tanggalin kamay ko an patay malisya lang. (PTA)”
When their trip began, the driver cracked a joke saying that he was supposed to go home when a passenger suddenly booked a trip, adding that the destination was far from where he lives.
Also, the man held his hand while she was putting her seat belt, as if she doesn’t know how to do it.
Ally’s fear grew when the man initiated a conversation with her.
“Maya maya..
UBER Driver: ang cute naman ng muka mo. ang liit. ang ganda
Ako: (ngumiti lang ako pero kinakabahan na ako)
UBER Driver: ilang taon ka na? may asawa ka na ba?
Ako: 24 na ako. OO KUYA, may asawa na ako.
UBER Driver: Maka kuya ka naman, may anak ka na din? Lalaki anak mo? ilang taon na..
Ako: MERON KUYA LALAKI, 4YEARS OLD NA
UBER Driver: ang layo naman ng pinapasukan mo (sabay tumunog yung device niya dahil may nagrequest din ng UBERPOOL)”
It seems like the driver – who was identified by Uber as Ivan Aaron Buenafe, was enjoying their small talk and got disappointed after another passenger booked for an Uberpool.
“Bigla niyang sinabi, ‘Ay sus sana hindi ka na nagUBERPOOL sinabi mo nalang sana sakin madali lang naman ako kausap.’
Sobrang kinakabahan na ako di lang ako umiimik. Nung malapit na sa destination ng nagrequest, tinanong niya ako
UBER Driver: Gusto mo CANCEL ko na tong nagrequest? Para tayo lang dalawa magusap?
Sa sobrang takot PTA dali dali kong sinabi “WAG NA KUYA ANDITO NA TAYO SUNDUIN NA”
UBER Driver: Parang takot na takot ka ah? (sabay ngiti) kumain ka na ba? Ano ulam mo?
Ako: OO. MANOK
UBER Driver: Patingin nga ako baka may natira pa (SABAY P********NG LAPIT NG KONTI SAKIN)
PTA. SOBRANG NANGINGINIG NA TUHOD KO DAHIL HINDI KO ALAM KUNG ANONG LUGAR YUN AT MADILIM PA.”
Ally was terrified because of what the driver had said, and done. The mere fact that he was trying to get close with her made her even more anxious. Good thing the passengers who booked for an Uberpool got inside the vehicle as well.
“Pagkasakay ng 2 babaeng pasahero, nagtulog tulugan ako. PINIPILIT KONG MAGTULOG TULUGAN DAHIL NATATAKOT NA AKO. Tinatry ko magisip ng paraan para sabihin sa 2 sumakay na sasabay ako sa pagbaba nila, pero bawat kilos ko PTA pinapanuod ng Driver.
Nakapikit na ako, paulit ulit niyang hinahawakan kamay ko. Pati buhok ko sabay bulong,
“Matulog ka lang. ang ganda mo lalo pg tulog ka”
NANGINIG AKO LALO. Bumaba na yung dalawang pasahero, MAS LALO AKONG NATAKOT.
UBER Driver: Malapit ka na oh, dahan dahanin ko nalang pagdadrive para mas may oras pa tayo..
ako: wag kuya marami pa akong gagawin at iidlip pa ako saglit
UBER Driver: diyan ka na umidlip, pinpatulog pa nga kita kanina eh
Hindi na ako makaimik. Pinipilit ko ipakita na hindi ako natatakot. Pero kasi, puro daan sa may stop light, gustong gusto ko nang umiyak…
Pinipilit niya hawakan kamay ko, pinipilit niyang makpagholding hands. Pinipilit niya kahit ramdam na niyang nilalayo ko na sarili ko
UBER Driver: patingin naman ako mukha mo, tingin ka sakin.. (pinipilit niyang iharap at ilapit mukha ko sa mukha niya na paulit ulit niyang ginawa)
ang laking tao ng UBER driver na yung kamay niya halos masakop mukha ko. hindi ko na alam gagawin ko at nanginginig na akong talaga na paulit ulit na akong nagdadasal sa isip ko.”
Ally wanted to cry out of fear that moment after Ivan Buenafe forces her to make physical contact with him. But she still managed to be composed and alert even when she was frightened.
The driver pursued her even more and asked her if she wants anything to eat.
“UBER Driver: gusto mo ba ng SB? gusto mo ng chocolates? kape muna tayo, o sama ka muna sakin sa CASINO, baka swertehin ako sayo. Gusto mo sunduin pa kita sainyo tapos ihahatid kita lagi sa opisina mo. Hindi na ako mamamasada para sayo.
Ako: hindi hindi ko po kailangan
UBER Driver: napansin mo bang nagbihis ako? init na init na kasi ako eh…
Hindi ko na alam isasagot ko, grabe na takot ko sobra, nang nasa harap na kami HALOS ng opisina.”
But when they were almost at her office, the driver got even worse.
“UBER Driver: wag ka muna bumaba (SABAY LOCK NG LAHAT NG PINTO) dito ka na muna kahit 5 minutes lang (pinipilit niya talaga hawakan kamay ko at pinipilit niya ilapit mukha ko sa mukha niya!!) Iiikot na muna kita, sige na dito ka lang muna,
Ako: kuya bababa na ako PLEASE. Bababa na ako please lang (hindi ko na natiis naiiyak na ako sobra sa sobrang takot)
UBER Driver: 5 minutes lang sige na. hinatid naman kita ng maayos, pinagmaneho kita ng maayos tapos eto lang gagawin mo? (PTA)
Ako: kuya bababa na ako eto na bayad ko please lang
UBER Driver: wala akong barya.. sige na dito ka lang muna.. bat ang lamig lamig naman ng kamay mo? susunduin kita bukas ah. ayaw mo nun may driver ka na may kuya ka pa?
Ako: eto na kuya o palabasin niyo na po ako please? (tinatry ko buksan pinto pero hindi ko talaga mabuksan talgang naiiyak na ako Lord
Pinipilit niya pa din ako magstay, hindi niya binubuksan yung pinto. Nanghihina na ako sa sobrang takot na parang hihimatayin na ako. Pinipilit pa din niya ilapit mukha ko sa mukha niya at nanlalaban na ako talaga hindi ko alam bat ganun
After ilang minutes ng pagpupumilit ko makalabas saka na niya binuksan yung pinto. Tumakbo ako direcho sa katrabaho ko na nakita ko habang nasa loob pa ako ng sasakyan ng driver.”
She was relieved when the heavens answered her prayer. Fortunately, she was able to get out of vehicle and ran to her officemate as fast as she could.

alam ko hindi niyo gusto yung ganitong pangyayari, pero sana hindi niyo na po hayaan na maulit to dahil grabeng takot talaga aabutin ng tao. Sana din may malinaw na details ng driver lalo na pagkatapos ng trip. Sana din may direct contact number kayo. #UBER”
Ally was pretty sure that it happened to her not because of her clothes, as she was wearing a decent outfit that time.
On the other hand, the netizens who had read her post were frightened by what the man did. Moreover, they were extremely infuriated by the maniac and tolf Ally to report it to the local authorities.
Transportation companies like Uber should clearly indicate the details of the driver before and after the trip for the customers’ reference just in case incidents like this happen. Furthermore, they shouldn’t allow drivers to use a username which do not include their surnames.
And lastly, the company should create an action to be able to monitor how the driver acts towards the passenger to prevent incidents like this to happen again in the future.
