- According to her, the driver put the passengers to shame after these mothers refused to pay for their children’s fare.
In the Philippines, fare discounts are often given to the passengers especially for the students and the persons with disabilities to give them considerations
This kind of discount is usually offered to passengers riding any public vehicle like the jeepneys. On the other hand, Filipinos are also known as people who prefer to save any amount than to have nothing at all, therefore they do a lot of tactics to save even in their fares.
There are some passengers who simply held on to the jeep’s railing without sitting inside, and there are also some who resort to letting their family member sit in their lap to be able to make their company’s fare free.
This set-up is accepted in almost every jeepney in the country, but apparently, there are some who simply don’t approve of what passengers do.
As a matter of fact, a jeepney driver just puts his passengers to shame after complaining about not paying for their kids’ fares.
The scenario was witnessed by Michelle Bungag Lopez and posted it on her social media account – which went viral in just a short period of time.

11:00 am, sumakay ako dto sa jeep nya mula elisa homes til molino jollibee at sa short distance na yun nasakhihan ko ang kaabusado, buwaya at kabastusan na driver na to at ang lakas pa ng loob na mamasada na naka sando at shortpants lng.”
“Mga 8 na kmi pasahero nya nun…pagdating sa tapat ng likha/ max’s village huminto xa at tumatawag ng pasahero na kalalabas plng sa subd na yun…medyo nagtagal kmi dun kc hinintay pa nya pasahero tumawid…pagtapat sa petron, may trafik enforcer…inabutan nya ng pera…Pagdating nnman sa tapat ng sm molino, dun kmi nagtagal ng husto kc naghintay nnman pasahero na patawid galing sm., at ang bastos na driver,,”hoy” ang tawag sa mga pasahero…nakadalawang go sa trafik lyt bago nya pinaandar sasakyan at may 2 trafik enforcers malapit sa kanya, pinaandar nya ng konti at inabutan nnman nya pera mga enforcers…inis na inis na kmi mga pasahero nya pero alam ko nagtitimpi lng mga iba….lahat ng mga station of d cross hinihintuan nya pra magtawag ng pasahero at “hoy” pa din tawag nya…kaya wala sumasakay.”
According to Lopez, during the short period that she had been inside the jeepney, she had witnessed how rude the driver was. The man was calling out passengers using a disrespectful choice of words in a brusque way.
Moreover, she saw how the man paid the enforcers to prevent them from charging him for his violations – one of those is his improper attire. Also, he was staying in a pick-up point for too long which is also against the law.
“Pagdating sa Molino Elem School., may 3 magulang at akay mga anak nla na sumakay sa amin parang kinder plng mga bata kc maliliit cla…nagbayad ngayon ang mga magulang ng tig 8 pesos lng nla..yung unang magulang, kinalong nya anak nya kaya 8, yung dalawang parents, umupo mga anak nla since maluwang nman at ang binayad nla ay tig 8 lng…eto ngayon sabi ng driver ng pasigaw…”#otso lng ibabayad nyo? Sa inaraw araw nyo na pagsakay nyo..eto lng ibabayad nyo.?! Obligasyon nyo na bayaran ang pamasahe ng mga batang yan.!!! Dali daling pinatayo ng mga magulang ang mga anak nla at hindi umimik….Nagpanting na ang tenga ko at sa asar ko, tinitigan ko xa ng masama at kunut na kunot na ang noo ko sabay kinuhan ko xa ng picture…ayan xa nung lumingon sa akin…nung nakita nya na naka uniform ako,..medyo pumreno bunganga nya..at kunwari nagpapaliwanag…”
The man complained to the mothers saying that it is their obligation to pay for their kids’ fares. The passengers then were embarrassed and had their children sit on their lap and kept quiet.
Lopez got annoyed for the passengers who were put to shame. She, therefore, took photos of the man – which the driver noticed. He must have been ashamed for a bit after seeing that she was a teacher, and explained to her even though she didn’t ask for it.

#Ako: Ah sa tingin mo, hindi masama yang pinaggagawa mo? Pinipilit mo clang bayaran ang mga anak nla na maliliit plng.?
Samantalang kanina duon sa sm molino, lahat ng mga trafik enforcers dun ay inabutan mo ng pera.!!! Tapos ngayon, pahiyain mo mga magulang dhil hindi nla mabayaran mga ank nla.! Gusto mong mapalitan ang pinamigay mo sa mga enforcers na yun.! Bastos at abusado ka.!
Pasalamat ka hindi kita kinuhanan ng video habang namimigay ka ng pera sa mga trafik enforcers na yun.!
#Driver: Kaya lang nman ako nag abot sa kanila pra hindi mahuli at mapabilis byahe ntin.
#Ako: Ahh so, dati mo nang alam na pwede ka nlang hulihin kaya nagbibigay ka ng suhol.! At anong mapabilis byahe pinagsasabi mo, eh inabot na kmi ng siyam2 sa dinami dami ng hinintuan mo na wala nman gaano sumakay dhil “hoy” ang tawag mo sa mga pasahero. Umayos ka kuya.!”
The driver tried to defend himself but failed to do so since he was not in the position to do so in the first place. Meanwhile, Lopez slammed the driver and gave him a dose of his own medicine.

He wasn’t able to do anything else but to mumble to himself during the whole ride.
On the other hand, the netizens who had seen her post had different opinions on the matter. Some said that they somewhat agree to the driver, while the others expressed their anger to the ill-mannered man.
Honestly speaking, there are no rules that say kids shouldn’t be paying for their fares until they grow a bit more. It is just that the citizens have been used to the set-up as it is already a part of the Filipino culture for quite some time.
