- Military sniper avenges fallen comrade, kills Maute member
- AFP and Maute conflict intensifies
In a situation where killing is as normal as breathing, you should be ready to attack all the time–at all costs. A veteran military sniper deployed in Marawi City did just that.
Bro code
For securtiy purposes, he never wanted to reveal his identity. He hides in the shadows of his code name Black Eagle. Despite his anonymity, he shared his news-worthy story about his comrade who had killed by Maute sniper.
During one of the conflicts of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Maute terrorist group, Black Eagle lost one of his closest comrades. Marine TSgt. Aldrin Dinglasan was shot by a Maute sniper in Barangay Mapandi during the early days of the siege.
“‘Pag namatay ako sa Marawi, sundan mo ako. Ibawi mo ako,” he recalls the conversation he had with Dinglasan before he got deployed in the city.
Black Eagle is a sniper instructor, and according to him, “Sanay na akong pumatay.” He can still recall the time when he was positioned at one of the towering buildings in Marawi’s business district to pick out targets among the Mautes. He was scouting when he noticed some suspicious movement. A fighter in black carrying a sniper rifle rushed out of a building and swiftly crossing the street.
With one eye shut, he followed the man, giving focus on every detail. All he had to do is breathe deep and squeeze that trigger. His bullet released and shoots its mark, killing a Maute 400 meters away from him.
Sweetest revenge
“Ang sabi ng tropa, yung nadale ko – yun yung (Maute sniper) na nakapatay sa kumpare ko,” he shared.
He never saw his friend’s tormentor, but fulfilling his promise to Dinglasan is more than enough. In silence, he told himself:
“Nakaisa na ako para sa iyo, pare.”
