- Andrew Garfield comes out as gay?
- LGBT+ Community is not pleased with Andrew Garfield’s coming out
Well, it looks like coming out is not a good promotion for an upcoming theater production.
Is Andrew Garfield done?
Setting the internet on fire is Andrew Garfield. Nope, it’s not about Spiderman fever. The 33-year-old actor is set to lead in Tony Kushner‘s award-winning play ‘Angels in America‘.
The play revolves around Prior Walter, a gay man suffering from AIDS in the 1980s.
In an interview with Gay Times, the British heartthrob talked about how he, as a straight man, felt about taking the role. “As far as I know, I am not a gay man.
Maybe I’ll have an awakening later in my life, which I’m sure will be wonderful and I’ll get to explore that part of the garden, but right now I’m secluded to my area, which is wonderful as well,” he said.
He even confesses that he adores the role, but has no rights to play the wonderful character.
“I had to trust that it was the right thing and Tony [Kushner] had asked me and maybe if he’d asked me, it was the right thing. It was as about doing honour, doing justice and knowing my herstory,” he followed up.
Preparations
It is seen in reports that his offensive comments towards his preparations for the role attracted ire from the LGBT+ Community. People did not take lightly his reasoning that he spoke to his gay friends and watched RuPaul’s Drag Race to get into character.
“This is my life outside of this play. I am a gay man right now just without the physical act – that’s all,” he said.
After this spicy statements, Twitter is exploding with hates for the actor.
They reminded the actor about the cultural appropriation he’s committing. Actor Scott Evans even tweeted, “You’re a talented guy, but you seem to be completely oblivious to what is coming out of your mouth.”
Their take on the issue? Stop casting straight guys for gay roles.
However, Garfield is yet to comment on the heated issue. Let’s just wait for his comeback.
