- Legalization of Medical Marijuana is one step away from being a law
Well, only for medical purposes only!
Marijuana legalization
The House Committee on Health has recently approved the bill legalizing and regulating the use of medical marijuana in the Philippines. House Bill 180 dubbed as “Philippine Medical Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act” is now being endorsed by the House panel. This is to follow the consultations of parents, advocacy groups, healthcare practitioners, etc.
Authored by Rodolfo Albano, Isabela representative, Bill 180 aims to legalize and regulate the medical use of cannabis having found out that it is beneficial and has therapeutic uses, especially in treating terminal health cases.
Regulation
When passed into law, Medical Cannabis Compassionate Centers (MCCC) will be founded as the authority to sell, supply, and dispense cannabis. Well, only to those qualified patients or their caregivers through S3-licenses pharmacists.
The scope of the bill also includes the establishment of the Medical Cannabis Research and Safety Compliance Facilities to be mandated in conducting scientific and medical studies of cannabis.
The Department of Health, on the other hand, will issue identification cards to qualified medical patients upon physicians’ certification. Upon the legalization, trainings for medical cannabis physicians will be strictly implemented.
