It might be the most disgusting thing you’ll ever have to do in your life but scientists believe eating booger actually has various health benefits.
In a study carried out by scientists from a number of universities including Harvard University and University of Saskatchewan, it was revealed that boogers contain ‘a rich reservoir of good bacteria.’
In addition, it also prevents harmful bacteria from sticking to our teeth and could possibly protect our bodies from stomach ulcers, respiratory infections and even HIV.
Co-author and biochemistry professor Dr. Scott Napper said:
“Nature pushes us to do different things because it is to our advantage to have certain behaviours, to consume different types of foods. So maybe when you have an urge to pick your nose and eat it, you should just go with nature.”
Meanwhile, lung specialist Professor Friedrich Bischinger revealed that people who pick their nose were found to be healthy, happier, and have stronger immune system.
“Medically it makes great sense and is a perfectly natural thing to do. In terms of the immune system, the nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria are collected,” he explained.
