- Duterte wants to reallocate CHR budget in funding PNP Body Cams
- CHR Budget to transfer on PNP 2018 Fund?
Eyes of judgment
The Philippine National Police alleged ‘Body Cameras’ distribution first made noise in the first quarter of 2017. No news has been made about the issue nor an update from the President.
Until in an interview during President Duterte’s visit in PO3 Junior Hilario’s wake, he brought up the Body Cam issue. As the GMA News Online reported, Duterte has ‘urged’ the Congress to reallocate Commission on Human Right’s 2018 budget to PNP’s Body Cameras.
“Marami akong mga bagay na dapat ibigay sa PNP. Camera, payag ako lahat. Pati si Bato, dito sa gitna ng ulo niya. Okay ‘yan sa akin. Lahat ng pulis tapos lahat ng operations ng pulis, they will embed an investigator,” he said.
At the end of day, it’s still the House of Representatives’ decision and how the Senate would agree to the House’s vote.
But, according to Duterte, if the House will insist that CHR should not be given a higher budget, he would suggest to give it to PNP. “Ibigay mo na lang sa akin to improve the police,” he said. “Camera, mga sasakyan bago. Eh mga luma na rin,” he continued.
On a lighter note, Duterte did clarify that CHR will not be abolished. It was put on standby until Jose Luis Gascon leaves the Chairman post.
