Sarahah’s CEO explains hacking issue, claims his app is safe

  • CEO of Sarahah invalidates hacking issue
  • Sarahah app, a hacking app?

We know, we know. This Sarahah app is creating a lot of buzz lately, and if you’re one of its users, we’re not judging you. We just want you to take cautious of what information you give to any phone application.

Is Sarahah hacking your private information?

It is, indeed, a joy to answer random questions from anonymous people, but when your safety is in jeopardy, would it be the same?

Zachary Julian, a security analyst, makes waves online as he revealed that the app uploads the users’ phone contacts and some personal information to the company’s servers for no apparent reason. An IT company named The Intercept also validates the claims saying the app immediately harvests and uploads all phone numbers and email addresses from the user’s address book.

We can think that an app requesting access to users’ information is normal, but with the instant hype on Sarahah, one can only imagine the danger that lurks within a single phone application.

Owner shuts down issue

In an interview, Sarahah’s creator and CEO Zain al-Abidin Tawfiq said that his app really gets information from the users not to hack them. His company will implement a new feature in the app soon, and the information is for it.

He also confessed that the users’ contact list is being uploaded for a planned ‘find your friends’ feature which was delayed due to a technical issue. The said feature was supposed to be included in the current version.

The app has already downloaded by an estimated 18 Million end users. Imagine? Tawfiq promised, at the end of his interview, that the next update of his app would no longer require data request.
