Bad Genius: Bold, Eloquent, Clever

  • Review for ‘Bad Genius’
  • Bad Genius is the highest-grossing film of Thailand this 2017

We have seen Thai movies take greater heights with their romance and horror genre films. But one thing is for sure, Bad Genius is one of a kind. I guess it’s safe to say that it does not fall to any movie genre, it’s that flexible. Comedy, action, thriller, and a pang of romance. I mean, it will make you feel all the emotions there is.

Edge of your seat

Just a tip, when you’re planning to watch this. Never drink coffee prior to your movie schedule. You can thank me after. Your heart will surely skip a beat or two, so an extra caffeine will no longer be needed. This may seem an exaggeration, but once you enter that cinema, you can’t feel anything but uneasiness.

I mean, that’s a good thing, great rather. From the beginning ’til the end, it’s a roller coaster ride. It will leave you wondering how the movie brilliantly the movie was made.

Things I learned

So, instead of doing the traditional review, I’ll just give you the things you would learn after watching the greatness that is ‘Bad Genius’. So, off we go.

Not all genius make the right decisions

Well, if you are not raised in a well-off family, your only weapon in life is your smarts and determination. It is evident in the film that both Bank and Lynn’s family is struggling financially and the only thing that can keep their hopes up is their scholarship. But when offered a good business deal, how can someone resist?

Business is business

At young age, Lynn (Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying) and Bank (Chanon Santinatornkul) put themselves in a situation only adults can get away with. Crime, business, money. These three words pretty sum up the whole movie. It’s go big or go home, do or die! In a business where dignity is at stake, will they succeed?

Friends are forever

No matter how illegal, you will cross rivers just to support your friend. But always remember, be wise. If it has something favorable to them, there should be also to you. Friends are forever, but it’s a two-way street.

Not everything leads to romance

Well, this could be a deal-breaker for you so if you don’t want any hint in the film, maybe it’s safer if you don’t read this. There would be a time when you think two of the casts would fall in love, but it’s never the case when it comes to business. Again, business is business. Less feelings involved.

You don’t fail, you learn

The ending might not be what you wanted, but it truly gave justice to the whole film. It’s either a story of success, or a story of learning. Despite everything, it definitely deserves a rating of 11/10.

This is an honest opinion about the film, watch it and come back here. In that way, you’ll get what I was saying even more.
