Heartwarming story of PUP Graduate student proves struggles are worth it

  • Graduate student from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines shared inspiring story of his road to success
  • Melecio Valero proved that there’s no easy way to get to victory

All graduate stories come in unique journeys. This one we’re about to tell will surely jerk a tear in your eyes and touch your heart as it showed that hardships are not a hindrance to achieve your dreams and aspirations in life.

Melecio Valero lived difficultly since he was a young boy. At the age of 6, he had to leave home due to abuse and found a new one only when he became a teenager. He left his hometown in Negros Occidental at 16 and took his chance in Manila to study college.

During his schooling, he became homeless both in Cavite and Pasay. He got nothing but himself to hold on to as his new family abandoned him again. Melecio had to work even as he was a student, a part time caregiver, janitor, houseboy and caretaker, you name it.

Despite being rejected, bullied and discriminated for countless times, the once hopeless young boy persevered.

According to his Facebook post that inspired thousands of netizens, Melecio shared that he never stopped dreaming and believing he could be successful one day.  True enough, he graduated college at the age of 23.

“Tiwala lang, makaka-graduate ka din!

Left home at 6. Entered elementary school at 7. Entered high school at 13. Found new family at 15. Left Negros Occidental at 16. Found hope in Manila at 17. Entered PUP at 18. Homeless in Cavite & Pasay at 19. Sheltered in Marikina at 20. Got new family in Biñan at 21. Graduated college at 23. Enrolled in graduate school at 25.

Was abused. Was abandoned. Was rejected. Was bullied. Was discriminated. Was judged. I SURVIVED.

Was a houseboy. Was a caretaker. Was a caregiver. Was a janitor. Was a vendor. Was a sales agent. Now a TEACHER.

Never Stop Dreaming, Keep Believing, You Can Make It Happen

Currently, Melecio is enrolled in graduate school to further master his course. He thanks the Almighty for helping him throughout his roller coaster journey.
