Ugly Truth Behind K-Pop Craze Revealed

  • K-Pop industry and its ugly truth
  • Disturbing cases that face the whole K-Pop Community

Flashing lights, fancy life, and a worldwide stardom. One would definitely fall for it. When K-Pop went big, people only saw a group of performers with beautiful faces and perfectly-chiseled choreography.

But after taking its flight to their highest zenith, some have realized the cruel reality behind the music.

And it is disturbing AF.

Grunge.com on Facebook released its foot on the breaks as they revealed the truth that lies beyond our K-Pop Industry. “Dangerous, degrading, and downright scary,” as Grunge put it describing the rotting industry. They’ve broken it to 7 key points as to how K-Pop is not the culture we see on TV.

Slavery

People now often call the business contracts of our favorite K-Pop idols as ‘slave contracts’. Reports saying that artists have to sign a contract where they sign over all their rights for a period of seven to 15 years.

Not just that. It is widely known that before a group debuts, its members have to endure years of grueling training and the record label basically dictates everything they do.

Prostitution

No matter how hard these agencies conceal the truth with terms like ‘Sponsorship’ or ‘Transactions’, one can definitely realize that what they do in their trainees is exploiting. It somehow became a requirement before you do.

Majority of the female idols became escorts to some bigtime businessmen in the industry.

Plastic Surgery

South Korea is one of the countries wherein plastic surgery is nowhere near taboo. It somehow became a norm, especially for Korean superstars. They have to go under the knife first to ensure their youthful look.

There’s nothing wrong with it but Koreans put something extra into the issue. They undergo extreme surgeries that involve jaws being broken and shaved into a V-shape because according to them, round faces aren’t as attractive  and edgy.

Fan problems

We’ve heard terrifying news about fans and their idols not just in Korea, but Korean fans definitely are the scariest of them all. Some of the severe cases involve tapping of phones, breaking into the apartments, installing cameras in their rooms, getting urine from a group’s house, and writing letters using blood. I know.

Gruesome.

Maintaining their figures

It’s so shocking that most of the agencies don’t care about their artists’ health. Reports said that commonly, these idols train 20 hours every day. They are not healthy as they appear on TV.

Another thing is that the management is very strict about the artists’ weight. They have prescribed weight requirements to maintain their figure. Weight checks are regularly done to get a hold of their artists’ physique.

Racism

If you’re not full-blooded Korean, you will be so lucky if you get past the auditions. Racism is rampant in the whole K-pop industry. One situation is that Shannon, a half-British Korean star, gets bullied just because she is not a full blooded Korean.

No creative freedom

If you want to write your own songs and express your own emotions, K-Pop is definitely NOT the one for you. Their songs, their style, and their form are spoon-fed by the record label.

They rarely got the chance to do their performances using their own style.
