ABS-CBN Maalaala Mo Kaya‘s episode titled “Identity Theft” was aired last June 23.
The show aired the point of view of Vivian Taluban, who is the mother of Caitlin Taluban, a victim of identity theft.
Despite Caitlin’s constant warning to her mother not to easily trust people online, it lead to the discovery of a person using Caitlin’s photos to catfish people.
While the story tackles the dangers of people you only met in social media sites, the guy who was the origin of the story, posted his point-of-view of how and why he used Caitlin’s photos in his dummy account.
Charles had a dummy account named ‘Evonie Reyes‘ whom his gay friend gave him. The account had his friend’s idol, Caitlin Taluban’s photos so the friends of that account thought that the one who owns that is the face in the photos. He stated that he was feeling insecure so he felt amazed when he learned that a lot of people cared for him under that name and image he was trying to portray.
He began searching for more photos of Caitlin and befriended her and her mom on Facebook.
Charles admitted that he had several relationships with other guys using that account. He was using that account for about a year when he encountered Isiah but it was in 2015 when he began his relationship with him.
In 2016, he admitted that Evonie Reyes was just a dummy account but he told Isiah that he was really Caitlin but her mom doesn’t like it when people court her results to the existence of the account.
Charles didn’t get to talk to Isiah after that.
On June 2016, Charles was ready to delete the account but when he texted every single person he was in contact within that account, Isiah was the one that replied. They started getting talking again and at Caitlin’s birthday, they became a couple.
Charles introduced Isiah to Caitlin’s mother as one of her supporters and told Isiah to send a message to the mother but advised him not to tell Vivian about the relationship.
After a year, Charles was planning to send a gift to Caitlin for her birthday but her mom didn’t give their exact address and only gave the address of the nearest LBC branch. He also gave Isiah the address and as a result, he, too, sent a gift to Caitlin for her birthday and their supposed to be first anniversary.
On January 1, 2018, Isiah and Caitlin met with the help of Charles but the truth still remained hidden. Isiah still thought that Caitlin is the one behind the Evonie Reyes account.
A month later, Charles was surprised when Isiah messaged him that they were going to meet and at some point, as Isiah spots Cailtin, he got confused as to how she was replying but has no phone in her hands.
Charles then gathered up his courage and told the truth to Isiah.
He further stated that he said sorry to everyone but he understands that they’re not yet ready to forgive him. Vivian has talked to him and has heard his side but Isiah and Caitlin need more time.
At one Instagram post, Caitlin Taluban said that maybe someday, they will be able to forgive Charles and move on. She also thanked all the people that watched the MMK episode.
