- The National Economic Development Authority or NEDA released a figure of how a budget of ₱10,000 a month will a affect a five member Filipino family
- Netizens react to NEDA’s said monthly budget
- NEDA clarifies that they only released the Php100,000 as a hypothetical figure to demonstrate how a five member family can portion their budget enough for common commodities
The National Economic Development Authority or NEDA said that ten thousand pesos a month is enough for a Filipino family of five members to live.
NEDA stated that the budget was broken down to a Filipino household’s necessities.
“The budget was broken down into items commonly consumed by a Filipino household based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) weights published by the Philippine Statistics Authority,”
In a breakdown done by GMA 7, it was shown that a budget of ₱3,834 is enough to feed a family of five for a month. That makes ₱127 your daily food budget.
According to Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon of NEDA, “Siguro fifth level ka na nun. Hindi ka poor. Kasi ang poor, mababa ang poverty line,”
This resulted to netizens posting humorous content and reactions pertaining to their disapproval of NEDA’s statement:
However, NEDA clarified on Wednesday that they did not say that a family of five can live decently with ₱10,000 a month and it was only an hypothetical figure to demonstrate how a five-member family can apportion the money for certain commodities.
They stated that they are committed to enabling Filipino families to live a comfortable, secure, and strongly rooted life.
