HEARTBREAKING! Netizen loses books over termites

  • Netizen expresses her sadness upon discovering that her books have been eaten by termites.
  • She states that she lost about 70% of her book collection which is over 70 books.

Pests are known to often exist in our homes. The most common ones being ants, cockroaches, rats, and termites.

Termites often much on wood, but they can also live on paper. This was experienced firsthand by a netizen who lost a large number of books in one month because of the said pest.

Facebook user Dorcas Kyla Aguayo shared the “The worst, most heartbreaking thing that could ever happen to books.”

She said that she lost around 70% of her book collection that she collected for years. She stated that she was away on most days last May, so she didn’t notice that the termites started crawling in her bookshelf.

Trigger warning

The worst, most heartbreaking thing that could ever happen to books.

Lost 70% of my books (around 70-80 books) I collected over the years. I was away for most of May, and di ko na notice na inanay na pala ang bookshelf ko. “Okay lang yan, nabasa mo na man rin lahat.” Yes, I may have read most of them but the nostalgic feeling I get whenever I touch the spines of my books…..it’s just gone. Lost. Empty.

She expressed how her books have helped her escape reality during hard times as she used to read from morning to evening. But when she started med school, she didn’t have much time to read anymore.

Whenever I’m stressed or tired from reality, I used to escape in between the pages of a book. The next thing I know, the sun has already set (and sometimes, rose again). And then med school happened. Maybe it’s about time I rekindle the spark and excitement in me whenever I pass by a bookstore. Maybe my books are punsihing me for disregarding them during the busy years in med school.

The netizen compared it to losing best friends and how they saved her from the harsh reality. She then wrote that even if that happened, she’ll still continue collecting books and making new memories.

“When I look at my room, I see a girl who loves books.” (John Green) But it feels empty now. My most prized possession. My very best friends. Never rebelled as a teenager because I was busy reading and collecting books. They kind of saved me from the harsh reality.

My lacrimal glands are tired. Time to collect new books, then. And make new memories.

Take care of your books, guys.
