- Boy sells merienda everyday after school for at least eight hours
- He said that he does this to help his father with his cataract and help his grandma with her travel expenses to Manila
All of us have once thought of different ways to help our parents financially. But sometimes, it’s just too difficult to put them into action.
Hannah Lee, a Facebook user, shares the story of how a 12 year-old boy helps his family by selling merienda (snacks) everyday after school. Lee always sees him selling under a tree in a subdivision in Muntinlupa, south of Manila. They had a small chat and she learned about his inspiring story.
His name is Carlo Martinez, member of a family with 5 children. He started selling snacks back in 2014.
His routine starts as soon as school ends at 1PM. He picks up his products from his neighbor and starts peddling them until 10PM. He orders the goods he’ll sell the next day when he gets home.
This routine happens everyday except Sundays where he spends it resting to prepare himself for the week ahead.
Carlo gives his earnings of about 150 to 200 pesos a day to his mom and keeps at least 20 pesos for lunch money.
When Hannah asked him why he’s doing all of these, he unfussily answered, “to help my father that is currently suffering from cataract and to contribute to my grandma’s travel expenses from Dumaguete to Manila so she can join us for Christmas.”
Aside from his inspiring story, Hannah also wrote that it was also Carlos’ 13th birthday come July 15.
“Been blessed by the kid’s story and hope you are too. So please PAY IT FORWARD.” Hannah wrote at the end of her post.
