Cinemalaya replaces ‘Citizen Jake’ screening with ‘Beast Mode’

  • Citizen Jake got pulled out from the 2018 Cinemalaya Film Festival.
  • CCP artistic director and vice president Chris Millado told Rappler that the producers did not give any reason for the pullout.

The organizers of the 2018 Cinemalaya Film Festival announced the screening cancellation of Mike de Leon‘s movie ‘Citizen Jake’.

A statement was released in Cinemalaya‘s Facebook page without any explanation. It wrote that the movie is going to be replaced with a free screening of the documentary ‘Beast Mode’ about Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos‘s social experiment.

Manuel Mesina III’s Beastmode, A Social Experiment will be screened in place of Mike de Leon’s Citizen Jake, under the indie nation section. Those who already bought tickets may have them exchanged for another film. For further inquiries, please call the CCP box office at 8323704.

In an article on Rappler, it is said that the Citizen Jake‘s producers were the ones who pulled out the film and according to Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) artistic director and vice president Chris Millado stated that they did not give any reason for the pullout.

It can be remembered that the movie made news when de Leon expressed his disappointment toward Atom Araullo, the lead star of the film.

Araullo played the role of a journalist named Jake Herrera, who is an estranged son of a powerful senator.
