- Sondos Alquattan retorts on critics saying that it is an attack on Islam, Kuwait, and the hijab.
- She further encouraged everyone to boycott the brands that chose to cut ties with her after she had made her bold statements.
Kuwaiti social media star Sondos Alqattan is far from apologetic regarding her statement against the domestic workers’ rights.
Several brands have dropped Alqattan and expressed their disagreement with her sentiments. Though heavily criticized, the influencer is unfazed by the backlash.
In a video she posted in her now private Twitter account, she says that the criticism on her previous remarks is an international effort to damage Kuwait. She added that it is also an attack to Islam and the hijab.
“Nevertheless, in a bid to clarify the matter, I have posted on Instagram yesterday. Of course I did not have to offer any apology because I was telling the truth, but this was only to make things clear.
They wrote, ‘The Kuwaiti fashionista, the veiled [woman], the Muslim.’
After seeing all this, I felt there’s an attack on Islam, [with those people] saying, look she is wearing the hijab, look at the Muslims, of course [look] at the Kuwaitis in particular, and similarly the people of the Gulf region, look at the Arabs.
Keeping a domestic worker’s passport is deemed an enslavement and racism. Why judge me [this way] when I keep my servant’s passport with the aim to ensure my safety?”
Alqattan proceeded to question the humanitarians about why they’re expressing outrage over her remarks rather that the crises and massacres in countries such as Syria, Iraq, and Gaza.
In the same video, she also encouraged all her followers to boycott the brands that have cut ties with her which includes Mac and Max Factor.
On the contrary, many have taken to social media to denounce her and say that they will boycott the products that continue to partner with her.
