- The Philippine Physical Therapy Association posted a statement regarding a dialogue in an episode of GMA’s The Stepdaughters.
- They expressed their disagreement over the antagonist’s words and shared how it insulted the entire profession.
The Philippine Physical Therapy Association (PPTA) released a statement regarding a line that was said in the August 27 episode of GMA Network‘s The Stepdaughters starring Megan Young and Katrina Halili.
On September 6, the association took it to Facebook to express their disappointment regarding the said dialogue.
It is said that an antagonist uttered disparaging words to one of the characters. “…let me just remind you, you’re just a Physical Therapist. You’re not a doctor. You’re not a nurse. Ngayon kung wala kang magawa, masahihin mo na lang ako. Tutal ‘yan naman ang trabaho mo, di ba?”
According to PPTA, the insult was not only directed at the character, but the entire profession as well. “This insult towards an entire profession whose daily contribution as an integral member of the healthcare team does so much to help thousands of people return to function is uncalled for, and necessitates a response, if only to correct a misconception.” they wrote.
They added that they have already reached out to the Senior Vice-President of the Entertainment Group of the Kapuso Network regarding their concern.

The PPTA ended the statement with an offer to help those who are interested in learning more about the tasks of physical therapists.
On the contrary, Facebook user Nickie Padoc shared that the association was taking the issue out of context.
God its just a statement ng isang kontrabida .. malamang kelangan sabihin yun para maging makatotohanan ang pagganap .. pinapalaki nyo yung issue eh .. kung talagang feeling nyo naargabyado kayo sampahan nyo ng kaso .. pustahan tayo hindi kayo mananalo ..
Kiven Bauilod Abeltido said that there are other ways that can be utilized which is not insulting to a medical profession. He added that the reason why they’re reacting negatively is because they are trying to break the stigma and misconception of people towards Physical Therapists.
There are a lot of different ways and options that you can utilize aside from insulting an allied medical profession po, We are condemning this because we are trying to eradicate the Stigma in the Profession! irereklamo talaga namin because it deteriorates the misconception of the people.
Another netizen said that the only reason why the character said insulting things is because she is an antagonist or a kontrabida and is supposed to spit out words that will irritate people.
Hindi ba kontrabida yung nagsabi kaya talaga namang nakakainsulto? Magtaka tayo kapag well informed at mabait ang kontrabida diba?
GMA Network has yet to address the issue.
