- Not all establishments would seek help from an influencer to promote their business
- “Siargao will not be as appreciated as it is now if not for the so-called influencers,” he claimed.
- He deleted his immediate reaction and posted a message of apology
Social media is not only used for communication purposes but also for business, advertisements, and/or promotions. Some business establishments would’ve asked somebody with a strong influence on social media to try their new product, accommodations, and/or service to boost their customer patronage.
But then, not all establishments would seek help from an influencer to promote their business.
One resort in Siargao, the White Banana Club Siargao, posted a message about an influencer who wanted a collaboration. The establishment had thought that the one who sent messages to them were a self-proclaimed influencers who wanted to have free food and accommodations.
“Help out there. We are receiving many messages regarding collaborations with an influencer, Instagram influencers. We kindly would like to announce that White Banana is not interested to “collaborate” with self-proclaimed “influencers.” And we would like to suggest to try another way to eat, drink, or sleep for free.
Or try to actually work.” – White Banana Beach Club Siargao
An influencer named “Lance De Ocampo” made a screenshot of the resort’s post and reposted it with his reaction.
“Ika nga, bato-bato sa langit, tamaan wag magalit. But being in the industry for 8 years, I’ve learned that there’s always a better way to decline a collaborative. Email to email, private message to private message. No need to throw shade.”
“If you don’t trust the power of social media then decline and move on. That’s why you have accounts and emails where people can message you right? You’re in a HOSPITALITY industry, stay humble, WELCOMING and open.”
“And oh, I, or WE, don’t want to take full credit but don’t forget, social media “influencers,” instagram influencers,” have big contributions to boost Siargao’s tourism. Siargao will not be as appreciated as it is now if not for the so-called influencers’ breathtaking and well curated INSTAGRAM photos.”
“I’ve never been to this place (no plans of going anyway) but the attitude they’ve shown online, reflects the people behind this establishment. #canceldtt
Later, he deleted his reactions and posted a message of apology, explaining the side story on his Twitter account.

Even after explanation and apology, he had made some of the netizens continue to humiliate him on social media.
I'm from Siargao and for you to say that it's cancelledt speaks so much about how high you look at yourself just because you are a self-proclaimed influencer. Siargao became famous not because of you guys but because of its beauty and its people. We dont need freeloaders.

But there were also netizens who understood him and accepted his apology.
And i think he politely clarified this difference. I get that a lot of people put him on the hot seat for this, but degrading him and what he loves doing is too much. I don't get why people are so affected by this issue.

I respect his statement clarifying his stand . I think the blowback came mainly because of how he stated his response to the resort’s tweet.
Adding the screenshot for reference. His apology should count for something though. pic.twitter.com/mi0gJEBaLT— patrick moral (@ericmoral) March 28, 2019
Tbh, just being on social media will make u vulnerable to making mistakes. This is the 'receipt' culture. People screenshot and get receipts to put people down. I think di na marreverse of course but he apologized and i think being aware of his mistakes is a good step 🙂
