Theme park ride in India snaps in half, killing 2 and injuring 26 others

  • The Discovery pendulum ride at Kankaria Adventure Park in Ahmedabad snapped in half as it was gaining momentum
  • 2 died and 26 others were injured
  • Further investigation is ongoing

The pendulum is one of the most popular rides in any theme park one can go to. Swinging back and forth at a high speed while seated 18 meters above ground, this machine is sure to make anyone think twice before getting on it again.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a perfect machine. On July 14, the Discovery Pendulum in Kankaria Adventure Park in India snapped in half, killing two and injuring twenty-six others.

A video of the incident was captured and is circulating on social media.

The video shows the machine swinging back and forth at a slow pace, as it was still gaining momentum. After a few swings, it reached its swing limitation and suddenly broke in half.

The broken part, where the people were located, then hit the machine’s pillar before falling down.

People in the park were shocked by what happened. Initial responders immediately went to the incident location as others were screaming in horror and fear.

Vijay Nehra, Commissioner of Municipal Corporation said, “Police along with the FSL team is investigating the matter. Proper treatment is being given to injured.”

Reports suggest that 2 were killed and the 26 injured were rushed to hospitals for further treatment.

An investigation is ongoing to find out what caused the incident, if the ride had a proper license, and if it was in its best condition when it was operating.

The two people who lost their lives have been identified as 24-year-old Manali Rajwadi, and 22-year-old Mohammad Javed.
