- People should get rid of their underwear after 6 months to a year of using them
- More than half of Americans do not change their underwear everyday
Back in July of this year, Dr. Lisa Ackerley, a hygiene doctor said that bacteria in your underwear does not come off until you set your washing machine to a certain temperature.
In an interview, she said that, “With knickers and pants, anything under 60 degrees won’t kill the bacteria.”
People who do not have washing machines can still remove germs by adding laundry sanitiser to their wash load.
Cleanliness is always important, but a recent survey suggests that there is a good amount of people that do not change their underpants daily, and some only wear a pair for a week.
Tommy John, an underwear maker says that 45% of Americans do not change their underwear daily and 13% of them wear the same one for a week before changing.
Moreover, men are more likely to wear the same underwear for a week straight, compared to women.
People admit that they feel attached to their underpants, and 46% of them have owned the same underpants for over a year.
38% of them say that they have had their underwear for so long that they do not remember how long it had been with them.
Tommy John insists that people throw out their underwear after 6 months to a year of use.
Having an underwear for too long can lead to problems like infections due to built up of bacteria.
